Pope John Paul II was much loved in Orthodox Bulgaria for his learning, kindness and openness to all believers, stated Bulgarian Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva.
Sunday Tsacheva was present in the Vatican among many world leaders honoring the beatification of the late Pope.
"The Holy Father John Paul II possessed an uncommon charisma, exceptional erudition and and extraordinary oppennes in communication with believers," stated the Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly in Rome.
She recalled the warm welcome the Bulgarian people gave to Pope John Paul II during his visit to the country in 2002.
Tsacheva further emphasized that at that time John Paul II himself dispelled the so-called "Bulgarian trace" in the unsuccesful attempt for his life in 1981.
Sunday in Rome Tsacheva and other world leaders were greeted by Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi, who was also present at the solemn mass.
