The rule of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party is damaging for the country, according to the leader of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Sergey Stanishev.

Stanishev, who is also a former Prime Minister, spoke Saturday in an interview for Darik radio, saying the government is turning the State into the most unpredictable factor in the economy while the failure of the Social and Finance Ministers to reach an agreement on upping minimum wages is a true circus.

The opposition leader appealed to all citizens to join the protest rally in Sofia on May 1, saying he hoped many people, not just left-wing followers, will show up in their desire to express outrage from GERB's policies.

Stanishev accused the cabinet of solving problems at the expense of the common Bulgarian and of complete lack of social policy.

"Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, promised last year that in three years Bulgaria will be an average EU country, not the poorest one, but just days ago the GERB cabinet adopted a national reform plan where it is written that increasing wages and retirement pensions is not going to take place in the next four years, with the exception of the election increase of 5% for salaries and 2%-3% for pensions," the BSP leader pointed out, adding for the 20 months of GERB's rule inflation surpassed 10% and would surpass 20% in the remaining 2 years of their term.

"This is a 20% impoverishment of the nation. Borisov is accusing my party of making him a pioneer, forcing him to wear a red scarf, and corrupting his childhood, but his policies are now corrupting the childhood and youth of many, not because they have to wear red scarfs, but because their parents have a hard time making the ends meet," Stanishev concluded.
