One of the two functioning reactors of Bulgaria's Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 5, has been turned off for its scheduled annual maintenance and refueling.
The information was reported Sunday by the NPP management, cited by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
The routine procedure is under the requirements of the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulation Agency, says a statement of the Kozloduy NPP. It is in compliance with the annual schedule for the work of the plant's units.
As part of the procedure, the 1000-MW Unit 5 will be modernized and refilled with fresh nuclear fuel for its next round of operations, and all of its systems will be inspected.
The repairs will continue until the end of May. The only other functioning reactor of the Kozloduy NPP, Unit 6, is operating at 100% of its capacity.
