Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has reprimanded Wednesday two of his ministers over leaks of information to the media.

According to the published shorthand notes of the cabinet's meeting, Borisov had been angered by media publications about changes in the date of the first day of school for Bulgarian students, and told Education Minister, Sergey Ignatov, to not announce any dates before discussions are held and agreement is reached with parents, students, teachers, and experts.

Ignatov had explained that groups of parents, students, teachers and experts have been working on the issue since November, adding he had not given information to the media.

"I read the papers today – there are several dates for the start of the school year, and then the paid sociologists will say – the cabinet is hesitant. You have to ask the media to break such headlines only after the Bill is sent to the Parliament for debates," Borisov told the Minister, comparing his actions with the blunder of the Member of the Parliament from his Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB party, Krasimira Simeonova, who stirred a huge scandal over organizing a school contest, deemed to have been political propaganda.

"By the way, if someone asks you to comment on this incident, tell them the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, has no right whatsoever to talk about using children for political propaganda. It was their party that made me a pioneer and forced me to wear a red scarf around my neck. They corrupted my childhood," Borisov told the ministers.

Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, had been reprimanded as well for the information announced for the media by the Head of the Food Safety Agency, Yordan Voynov that sharpshooters will be sent to the Strandzha region to kill animals infected with the food-and-mouth disease.

"Minister Naydenov, who is releasing this news – sharpshooters chase mad cows with helicopters? Send three hunters with rifles to do the job, please. I read these and I am embarrassed," the PM asked the Minister, to which the latter replied he was embarrassed as well.

"Colleagues, fire and punish people, otherwise I will fire and punish you," Borisov had warned.
