Bulgaria's former Tsar and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, has delivered strong criticism of the so-called "transition period" in the country, saying the one or two-party model is not yet "a thing of the past."
The statement was made in an interview for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for their collection on the transition period, published in the former Tsar's personal site, and cited by the Bulgarian daily 24 Chasa (24 Hours).
When asked to make an overview of the last 20 years, Saxe-Coburg says that in the course of the fast development of events, Bulgaria skipped closing a main page for the benefit of democracy – the debate about the secret communist services, pointing out other former socialist countries have been way more successful in this area.
The former Tsar ranks media interpretations with strong influence on the public as the second subject deserving criticism.
"Their main goal should be objective information, not becoming the loudspeaker of someone's interests by making subjective interpretations of events," Saxe-Coburg points out.
The third strong criticism is aimed at the failure of Bulgaria to benefit from the huge resources provided by the European Union.
