NATO should have taken over the operation in Libya from the start, stated Saturday Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov.

Speaking for TV7, Mladenov said he had some misgivings about the operation, especially as far as coordination is concerned.

"The fact that the mission eventually was transferred over to NATO control confirms the rightness of Bulgaria's initial position," said the foreign minister.

Saturday Mladenov furthermore confirmed that Bulgaria will send the Drazki combat frigate to the area to help enforce the arms embargo against Libya.

"We are not in war with Libya and we are not sending any land forces," said the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He also added that it is not up to Europe or the international community, but rather up to the Libyan people, what the next government of the country will be.
