Bulgaria's Cabinet has provided the Sofia Municipality with BGN 11 M in order to pay for the delivery of three new trains for the subway.

The three new trains bought from Russian company Metrovagonmash located in Mytishchi, near Moscow were launched in December 2010 by the Sofia Metro.

The government money is provided to the Sofia Municipality from the reserve for unexpected and emergency costs under the 2011 State Budget Act.

The press service of the Sofia Municipality has pointed out that that the municipality will allocate BGN 33.5 M of its 2011 budget to co-finance the continuing construction of the Sofia Metro.

The sum is 25% of the cost of the metro construction works in 2011, which is mostly funded from EU grants under Operational Program Transport.
