The newly established Center for Prevention of Organized Crime and Corruption (BORKOR) cannot fight corruption, according to the unit's head, Rumen Milanov.
In an interview for the Bulgarian National television on Wednesday he said that the structure, which is under his command, is supposed to examine the conditions for the emergence of corruption in different places.
Milanov made it clear that being the head of BORKOR is not the most important post in his career.
The unit was set up by the center-right government in July to clear Bulgaria's image as one of the most corrupt EU member states.
Milanov also said he will resign from his post as the Secretary of the Security Council at the Council of Ministers in order to avoid speculations about conflict of interests.
BORKOR has a primarily analytical function, but will cost the Bulgarian state budget about BGN 2 M per year.
