Bulgaria and Georgia have signed an agreement for establishing direct flights as a Bulgarian delegation has made it clear the Balkan country wants to see Georgia in the EU.

The agreement was signed Monday by Georgian Economy Minister Vera Kobalia and Bulgarian Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Minister Alexander Tsvetkov, Trend News reported.

The signing ceremony was also attended by the Chairwoman of the Bulgarian Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva, who is on a visit to Tbilisi together with Tsvetkov.

The agreement provides for lifting of all restrictions that so far has been preventing direct air links between the two countries. From now on, regular flights will be carried out in addition to charters.

"This agreement will allow Georgian companies to enter the Bulgarian aviation market without unnecessary bureaucratic barriers and vice versa", said Kobalia, noting this will bring together the two countries and increase passenger traffic.

Earlier in the program of the Bulgarian state delegation, the Chairperson of the Bulgarian Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva said after a meeting with Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze that Bulgaria supports Georgia's integration into the European Union.

She stressed that Georgia and Bulgaria have much in common in the sphere of economy and that this economic cooperation between the two countries will only intensify. A willingness was expressed to share Bulgaria's experience in carrying out the reforms with Georgia.

"We support Georgia's integration into the European Union and want it to become a member of the European family," Tsacheva said as cited by Trend News.

According to Bakaradze, the experience of Bulgaria as a country that recently joined NATO and the EU is very important for Georgia. He said that Bulgaria is both a very important economic and political partner of Georgia and a protector of its interests in the EU and NATO.

A Georgian state delegation will have the opportunity to visit Sofia in the nearest future.
