Bulgaria is lauding the March 27 decision of NATO to take over the entire command of the military operation in Libya, aiming at protecting civilians from the forces of dictator Muamar Gaddafi.
The official statement was published Monday by the Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Vesela Cherneva.
The decision to act under the mandate of resolution 1973 of the UN Security Council is a demonstration of the decisiveness of all allies, including Bulgaria, to fulfill their commitment to the UN resolution and of NATO's ability to undertake firm actions in support of the effort of the international community, the spokesperson points out.
The declaration further applauds the Alliance's readiness to carry out the coordination with its international and regional partners.
"This key role of NATO in the political leadership of the military operation in Libya will be precisely our priority in the upcoming Tuesday conference on Libya in London. We believe the mechanisms of the Alliance, already tried and proven in several missions across the world, will be used in forming the decisions," the declaration reads.
