Bulgaria's position on resolution 1973 of the UN Security Council remains unchanged and had never been altered, the spokesperson of the Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Vesela Cherneva, announced during a Tuesday briefing.

Cherneva answered a reporter's question about the discrepancy between statements of Prime Minister, Boyko Boriosv, who called in a TV interview the military operation in Libya a "euphoric adventure triggered by oil money," and a declaration of the cabinet's press office, distributed 10 hours later, saying the operation is legitimate and right.

The differences, according to the spokesperson, stem from the common debate in the European Union about the operation.

"Today we see this move as legitimate, based on international law; necessary because the treatment of Gaddafi of his own citizens is totally unacceptable, and right, since this the way the international community must react," Cherneva stated.

The spokesperson pointed out it is impossible for Bulgaria to take part in military actions, but the country can assist in other ways with all further moves depending on the decision to be made by NATO.

In case the Alliance does not take over commandment of the operation in the next days, Sofia will examine possibilities to participate in the embargo or to offer humanitarian assistance, Cherneva says, adding that the EU Foreign Policy Council went one step further Monday from the UN no-fly zone resolution for Libya by stating as their goal the ousting of the Gaddafi regime.
