Ukrainian Woman Detained in Sunny Beach After Attempted Bribery of Police Officers
Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov welcomed in Sofia Friday his Georgian counterpart, Ivane Meribashvili.
The two Interior Ministers signed a cooperation agreement providing for the exchange of information on organized crime, and for organizing joint police operations and investigations as well as for border policing.
"We don't have any issues in our bilateral relations. Georgia is on the road to become a NATO and EU member," Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetanov declared.
His statement is a hint of the flaws of the Bulgarian judiciary as he has been tangled in a war of words with Bulgaria's supreme judges blaming them for not issuing proper sentences.
"I envy my colleague. Some 2-3 years ago Georgia had only 5 000 prisoners, and now they have 24 000, which means an extremely efficient judicial system," he added.
According to Ivane Meribashvili, there are no serious crimes in Georgia involving Bulgarian citizens. He believes that the law enforcement cooperation will boost the bilateral economic and tourism ties.
"Bulgaria's is one of Georgia's windows towards the West and the EU," the Georgian Interior Minister declared.
