Bulgaria is interested in having maximum safety and security when it comes to our nuclear reactors, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, declared Tuesday.
Borisov pointed out the tragedy in Japan is immeasurable and will force the European Union to revise its nuclear policy about all its Nuclear Power Plants, adding Bulgaria is fully aligned with the desire to have such safety.
"Rest assured, the NPPs will be examined under a microscope, but no one will shut theirs down – the US, Germany, France and even Japan," the PM told the Members of the Bulgarian Parliament.
Earlier on Tuesday, EU Energy Commissioner, Gunther Oettinger, said the Bulgarian project to build a second Nuclear Power Plant, NPP, in the Danube town of Belene must be re-examined with additional technological and geological safety studies.
Borisov presented Tuesday in Parliament a report on his cabinet's priorities during the Hungarian Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2011 and the Belgium one during the second.
The top priority stated by PM Borisov was Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen zone within the term of the Hungarian Presidency.
Other priorities include Union-wide coordination in economic policy and governance, as well as the reform of the Union agricultural policy in 2013.
