Bulgaria: Bulgaria's Unemployment Rate Still 9.78%

Bulgaria's registered unemployment rate has not seen a change in February 2011, staying on its January level of 9.78%, according to the country's National Employment Agency.

The registered unemployed decreased by a mere 79 people compared with the previous month, the Agency says, the total number of registered unemployed Bulgarians in February being 362 368. Their number is down by 17 876 compared with February 2010.

A total of 33 661 new unemployed people have been registered at the Bulgarian employment bureaus in February. Some 43.6% of those newly registered had been working in the service sector, followed by the industry sector with 24.1%. A total of 14 897 job positions have been declared by the employment bureaus, 9 118 of which in the primary labor market. In February, the new job positions have been 2 529.

The capital Sofia's region remains the one with the lowest unemployment rate – just 3.89%
