Bulgaria's former Minister of Interior Rumen Petkov himself knows well why his US visa was retracted, said American ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick Friday.

In the past months, Petkov and Warlick have engaged in a furious war of words that flared after the US envoy alleged the socialist's visa was withdrawn on grounds of an investigation carried out against him, but refused to specify the details.

That provoked the ire of Petkov, who stated that the allegations against him are completely false and even vowed to exert all pressure to expell Warlick from Bulgaria.

The ex Interior Minister has repeatedly asked Warlick to substantiate his claims against him, but the American ambassador has chronically failed to do so.
