Bulgaria's state-owned company Bulgargaz has announced its request for a 6.6% increase of natural gas prices for the second quarter of 2011.

The request submitted to the country's State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) has asked for increase of BGN 33.67 per 1000 cubic meters, compared to the first quarter of the year.

According to Bulgargaz, the actual increase in Q1 of 2011 was much smaller than their request – below 3%.

"The increase, compared to the current price, is a result of the higher prices for alternatives of natural gas on the international markets in the last months," the company stated.
