Bulgaria's embattled Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov has been engaged with a sharp exchange of words with Defense Minister Anyu Angelov over the future of Bulgaria's military police.

This has transpired from the minutes of the cabinet's sitting from Wednesday, published Thursday on Bulgaria's Liberation Day.

During the sitting, Tsvetanov sharply dissented that a separate law is needed to enshrine the status of the military police.

He further argueed that security and reconaissance agencies need their own legislative acts to be prepared.

When Minister of Defense Angelov pressed on with his position, stating it has been consulted with other cabinet members, including Minister of Justice Margarita Popova, Interior Minister Tsvetanov quipped that apparently Angelov wants to get in a "meaningless debate", furthermore addressing the latter as simply "Mr. Angelov." Angelov is not only Minister, but also general.

During the exchange, Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov intervened to defend the position of Angelov. Mladenov himself was Minister of Defense, before moving on to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 2010 after the resignation of Rumiana Jeleva.
