Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov received Tuesday in Sofia US Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon.

"Bulgaria is good partner and a strong ally in NATO. Your country has our support for the efforts to create a good image for itself within the EU," Gordon told Borisov as cited by the government press office.

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip H. Gordon is on a trip to Bulgaria, Greece, and Slovakia.

The topics of the meeting, which featured also US Ambassador in Sofia James Warlick, included the situation in North Africa where the Arab countries have been experiencing intensive civil unrest, and the situation in the Balkans.

Borisov also vowed Bulgaria's support for the Nabucco gas transit pipeline and presented to Gordon the projects for gas interconnections with Romania, Greece, Turkey, and Serbia.

Gordon also met with President Georgi Parvanov.
