Only 500 EU citizens willing to flee Libya amid the ongoing unrest are still in the country and they will be evacuated within days, a EU official has revealed.

Some 1000 EU passport-holders do not want to be evacuated from the North African state in spite of the possible consequences, the unnamed official has told EUobserver.

Late on Monday, Bulgaria's government Airbus 310 evacuated 41 more Bulgarian citizens from Libya on Monday, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has announced. Last week, 111 Bulgarians returned from Libya with Bulgarian planes and 24 others were evacuated with Romanian and Ukrainian planes. Another 22 Bulgarian citizens fled the country on board of the Turkish Iskenderum ship, which arrived on the port of Marmaris on Monday.

The number of Bulgarian citizens left in Libya is still unclear.

A total of 100 000 foreigners have left Libya so far, according to Bulgaria's EU Commissioner on Humanitarian Aid, Kristalina Georgieva
