Bulgaria will send a plane to evacuate its citizens who want to leave Libya on Tuesday.

The state-owned company Technoexportstroy has secured the plane, which has a capacity of around 180 seats and will arrive at 12:00 local time in Tripoli.

It is vital for all Bulgarian citizens in the region of Tripoli who want to return to their home country to carry their Bulgarian passports, as otherwise their evacuation will be impossible, the Foreign Ministry has informed. Those who have their passports taken by their employers must contact the Bulgarian Embassy in Tripoli and secure themselves temporary documents.

According to the Foreign Ministry, some 240 Bulgarians are situated in the Tripoli region. If necessary, Bulgaria is ready to later deploy another plane.

On Monday, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov said his institution was on stand-by and fully prepared for an independent Bulgarian evacuation or for a joint one with another European country. He reiterated warnings Bulgarians should avoid all travel to Libya, and recommenced to those located in the eastern Libyan regions to not attempt to reach Tripoli since information who controls what areas is contradictory.

Mladenov informed the Bulgarian Embassy in Tripoli, the Ambassador's Residency and the housing base of the Technoexportstroy company are ready to accept Bulgarians in need of assistance or shelter, adding the evacuation of EU citizens is further hindered by the Libyan requirements to leave the country only with an exit visa.

Late on Monday, Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi employed fighter jets to bomb civilians protesters of his regime around the capital Tripoli.

Military planes and helicopters have wrought havoc around the Libyan capital as the 40-year-old dictatorship of Gaddafi is struggling for survival against the massive pro-democracy wave rapidly taking over the country in a follow-up of the revolutions in its other Arab neighbors Tunisia and Egypt in the recent weeks.
