Any high Bulgarian officials who contemplate quitting stand no chance of keeping their positions, as the country's Prime Minsiter Boyko Borisov has pledged to accept every single resignition.
" Those who know me are aware that whenever someone submits a resignation, I sign it," Borisov declared on Thursday, commenting the rightist Blue Coalition's demands that he should not to accept the resignation of the head of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), Tsvetlin Yovchev.
In spite of the rightists' request, Borisov accepted the resignation on Thursday, which meant that Yovchev became the first victim of the eavesdropping scandal involving top officials.
Borisov's statement that he shows no mercy with quitters is not completely true, as in February 2008, when he was the mayor of Sofia, he refused to accept the resignation of Yordanka Fandakova, then failed to convince the European Parliament about her suitability for the job, now Borisov's successor as mayor.
In January 2010, he initially refused to accept the resignation of Rumiana Jeleva as foreign minister. Jeleva tried to resign after she failed to convince the European Parliament about her suitability as a EU Commissioner. However, she was later removed, as Borisov succumbed to his centrist GERB party's demands.
