The Bulgarian cabinet is doing unprecedentedly well in its fight against smuggling, stated Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov Wednesday.

Tsvetanov was speaking to journalists after presenting a classified report on smuggling to the parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee.

"With regard to stopped quantities of contraband, there is no period that can be compared to what we did in 2010," said Tsvetanov, nevertheless admitting that there are still "problems" outstanding.

Nevertheless, he dismissed the opinion of Customs Agency director Vanyo Tanov that the struggle against cigarette smuggling is on its way to being lost by the state.

"I think that we will win that battle," assured minister Tsvetanov.

Since the report on smuggling was classified, Tsvetanov could not give further details to media.
