Bulgaria: Sofia Govt Plane Evacuates 63 Bulgarians from Egypt Passengers seen at Cairo airport as thousands of passengers in the terminal continue to wait for information about when they can leave, Cairo, Egypt, EPA/BGNES

The plane of the Bulgarian government sent to evacuate the Bulgarian citizens who want to leave Egypt has departed from Cairo with 66 people on board.

A total of 63 of them are Bulgarian citizens, and three others are Russian citizens.

The plane took off Tuesday evening and is expected to arrive in Sofia after 7 pm local time, announced Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vesela Cherneva.

The total number of Bulgarian citizens residing in Egypt is estimated at 200-300 but Bulgaria is evacuating only those wishing to leave the country.

Earlier Tuesday, Bulgaria dispatched its government plane to collect from Cairo those Bulgarian citizens wishing to leave the country, a few days after a number of other states have done the same.

Despite the difficult situation at the Airport, the plane was able to land and depart successfully.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry further reports the situation at the Airport is chaotic because a large number of people are there attempting to leave Egypt and many flights have been delayed.

Meanwhile Bulgarian tour operators have started to organize charter flights to bring back the Bulgarian tourists currently on vacation in Egyptian resorts.

The families and relatives of the Bulgarians located in Egypt are encouraged to use them to receive or submit information to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry. The provided contact information is as follows:
