No evacuation of Bulgarians from turmoiled Egypt is needed for the time being, according to an announcement by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spokesperson Vesela Cherneva nevertheless confirmed that an evacuation plan is currently prepared and ready to be executed if the situations comes to require that.

If needed, the evacuation can be executed "within hours," according to the spokesperson.

It is estimated that some 300 Bulgarian nationals are present in Egypt.

Special telephone numbers have been opened at the Bulgarian embassy in Cairo, to ensure connection of Bulgarian citizens with the government's envoys, as well as to localize them across the country.

Cherneva confirmed the embassy is open to all Bulgarian citizens who do not feel safe.

The Foreign Ministry has reiterated its warnings to limit visiting the areas where popular protests are active, as well as to refrain from traveling to Egypt.

Monday morning countries like Japan, Canada, the USA and Germany have announced they are starting to evacuate their nationals from Egypt, which has in the past days been experiencing its most large-scale street protests in recent history, resulting in the deaths of at least 100 persons.

"Chaotic" conditions are reported for Cairo airoport, as hundreds of foreigners, including tourists, have flocked to leave the country, and flights are not being executed according to regular schedule.
