Vetrocom Limited, a subsidiary of the Swiss energy group Alpiq Holding Ltd, is set to expand up to 72.5 megawatts the capacity of its wind farm in Bulgaria, the company announced.
It will invest EUR 36 M in the wind farm, located near the town of Kazanlak.
The facility launched its operations in November last year with total capacity of 50MW and equipped with 20 wind turbines from the German manufacturer Fuhrl?nder.
The new nine turbines should be ready by the end of 2011.
The project has created 100 permanent and temporary jobs. The Bulgarian wind farm investment is part of Alpiq's strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy production.
Alpiq, established in early 2009 through the merger of Atel and EOS, employs over 10 000 people in 29 countries in Europe. The company specializes in electricity generation and transmission, sales, trading and energy services.
Bulgaria, which joined the European Union in 2007, is obliged to meet the 20% renewable energy target by 2020.
