Swine flu claimed its first victim in Romania for this year, the local authorities have announced.

A 60-year-old man died Sunday night in the hospital in the city of Iasi, about 320 km north-east of Bucharest.

The man had recently returned from Egypt and he started developing the symptoms shortly after that.

At present, there are two confirmed cases of people infected with the A(H1N1) virus in Romania. Last year, 122 people died from the virus in the country.

One person died from swine flu in Bulgaria in December 2010.
