Snap Elections Loom according to Bulgarian Socialist Party
Amidst escalating political turmoil in Bulgaria, the prospect of snap elections looms large, with Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Kornelia Ninova delivering scathing remarks on Tuesday
Two-thirds of Bulgarians think that the work of the present GERB cabinet is no better than that of the previous three-way coalition, according to an opinion study by the MBMD agency.
Just 32% of Bulgarian consider the present cabinet better, down from 51% in December 2009. 35% estimate the work of both cabinets as being of the same quality, while 26% consider the GERB cabinet inferior.
Support for almost all cabinet ministers is reported dropped, and the same applies for President Georgi Parvanov, Speaker of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva and PM Boyko Borisov, who is nevertheless still at the top with 44%.
Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who is facing accusations of power abuse and impressions his police operations are ineffective at curbing crime, has dropped from 61% to 43%. Trust in the other vice-PM, Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov is spectacularly low at 20%.
As is traditional, the institution with the highest rate of lack of trust is the Bulgarian Parliament at a staggering 77% of distrust.
Political figures whose support has remained stable include GERB Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova (31%), chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Sergey Stanishev (16%), and co-chairs of the rightist Blue Coalition Martin Dimitrov (12%) and Ivan Kostov (10%).
