The Finish energy consortium Fortum plans acquire no more than 1% in the second Bulgarian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to be build in the Danube town of Belene.
The information was reported by the CEO of the company Tapio Kuula, cited by the Russian online media oilru.com and the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
On November 30, Fortum signed an agreement for Belene with the Russian State Corporation "Rosatom" and the Bulgarian National Electric Company (NEK) which provided for a Finish stake between 1% and 25%.
The French Altran Technologies is also expected to join the project.
According to the signed documents, Bulgaria will have 51% of the NPP, but other investors would later have the opportunity to increase their shares to 25% in the expense of the Russian and the Bulgarian ones.
Upon the signing of the contract on November 30, Fortum Executive Vice President Anne Brunila told Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) the company is only committed to 1% of the project company for Bulgarian Belene NPP.
On December 10, the Finnish Ambassador to Sofia, Tarja Laitiainen, said in an exclusive interview for Novinite.com that the Fortum energy company makes its own decisions and does not represent the Finnish energy interests in Bulgaria.
