Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Bulgaria's ruling party GERB has to clean the country from the agents of the former State Security because they are like an anchor to the past, the leader of the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party, Ivan Kostov, said.
In an interview for the Bulgarian private TV channel bTV on Friday, Kostov said that GERB also has to get rid of the regional managers and the people who work in the energetics and who protect the interests of another country.
He express his party's support for the removal of diplomats, who were revealed to have collaborated as agents of the former State Security of the Communist regime. He also welcomed the will of the Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and the Foreign Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, to solve the problem.
However, Kostov pointed out that they will face a strong opposition from the President Georgi Parvanov.
"They are facing a difficult battle because against them is the agent of the State Security, the informer of the State Security – Gotse, and the people bound to the State Security will nto give up without a fight," Kostov said, referring to Parvanov as "Gotse", which was his codename as a secret collaborator of the State Security.
According to the DSB leader, the Bulgarian President wants the discredited Ambassadors to remain at their posts.
"I wish Borisov to not give up this time. All the people who want Bulgaria to progress towards its European future support him," Kostov said.
He noted that there are former secret agents in the state administration and the foreign ministry as well. He gave an example with 30 young diplomats, who were hired by the Foreign Ministry in 1998, out of which only two are still working there.
