The scandal with the leaking of US diplomatic cables on WikiLeaks is like "September 11" for international diplomacy, believes Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov.
Speaking before students at the Ruse University "Angel Kanchev" on Monday, Mladenov described the WikiLeaks publications as very damaging to the trust in the international community, threatening the security of many people and many states.
"This is a pointless and very harmful deed, which does not help build trust among the people doing diplomatic work, and does not provide any way to understand the real essence of politics. Because every single text that has been removed from its context leads to conclusions that are not always right," explained Bulgaria's top diplomat.
He further called the release of the US diplomatic cables "an extremely ugly deed."
Mladenov delivered his lecture on "Advantages and Challenges for Bulgaria's Foreign Policy" at the Ruse University on his name day, Nikulden, or the day of St. Nikola, which is a popular traditional holiday in Bulgaria.
