The goal of ABV is not to become the newest political party in Bulgaria, but rather to create a network of social activism and leadership, explained Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.
ABV is the new political project launched by Parvanov November 11 under the guise of a "civic movement."
Speaking in an interview for nationally aired private bTV channel, Parvanov explained that ABV will not have its own candidates for municipal councillors, but might back candidates for mayors for the local elections in the fall of 2011.
"ABV is there to press the point that Bulgaria needs alternatives in a number of key areas," stated the Bulgarian President, clarifying that according to him the political model in the country is "unipolar" at present and that the economy is "based on ignorance" rather than knowledge.
He also qualified the present center-right GERB cabinet as inferior in terms of competence compared to the previous Threeway Coalition government.
According to Parvanov, it is only natural that ABV and the Bulgarian Socialist Party should be partners in their future actions. Parvanov was BSP's chairman before elected for his first term as president in 2001.
