Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan received Sunday a Bulgarian delegation of professors, teachers, social activists and diplomats.
The delegation, headed by Simeon Dimchev, President of the Bulgaria-Vietnam Friendship Association, visited Vietnam to attend the program "Paying Gratitude to the Nation of Roses".
Praising Bulgarian science and training environment, Doan expressed her wish to expand cooperation in education and training with Bulgaria and vowed that Vietnam would soon implement the signed agreements with Bulgaria , especially education and training agreements.
Doan, who is herself a graduate of a Bulgarian university, thanked to Bulgaria on behalf of the Vietnamese alumni for providing education to thousands of Vietnamese specialists.
The number of Vietnamese who received their degrees in Bulgaria is estimated at about 30 000. They attended Bulgarian universities mainly back in Bulgaria's communist period (1944-1989) when the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the then People's Republic of Bulgaria were especially close.
In October 2010, Doan headed a delegation in Sofia, which aimed to revamp the close mutual relations between the two countries. She was wholeheartedly welcomed by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and Vice President Angel Marin.
