The US Ambassador to Sofia, James Warlick, is asking to have available more details on the Bulgarian-Russian agreement for the construction of the South Stream gas line.

In a Tuesday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Warlick pointed out the Bulgarian Prime Minister and his cabinet have made commitments not only to South Stream, but to the European gas line alternative Nabucco.

The Ambassador is further requesting details on the plan to built a second Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the Danube town of Belene with Russian participation.

Warlick statements come on the heels of of the Saturday visit of Russian PM, Vladimir Putin, to Sofia, during which the two sides signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint company to do pre-investment studies and manage the Bulgarian section of the gas line.

The Ambassador has said earlier Bulgarians have the right of more transparency regarding the cabinet's energy policies.

"We know very well Bulgaria's collaboration with Russia in energy projects is forthcoming because Russia is a reliable supplier, Warlick pointed out, but reiterated diversification of sources and transparency are also key.

Regarding gas prices, the US top diplomat in Bulgaria stressed he would stay away from comments because the information if they would go up or down keeps changing daily, adding these prices should be reduced since Bulgarians now pay too much for gas.
