US Embassy in Bulgaria Calls for Cultural Heritage Projects

The US Embassy in Sofia has announced a call for proposals for cultural heritage projects seeking funding from the Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

The AFCP supports preservation projects in the following three categories:

1) CULTURAL SITES including (but is not limited to) historic buildings and sites, sacred places, monuments, and archaeological sites.

2) CULTURAL OBJECTS AND COLLECTIONS from a museum, site, or similar institution and includes archaeological and ethnographic objects, paintings, sculpture, manuscripts, photographic and film collections, and general museum conservation activities.

3) FORMS OF TRADITIONAL CULTURAL EXPRESSION including traditional music, rituals, knowledge, languages, dance, drama, and crafts.

Last year's project awards ranged from USD 10 000 to USD 254 930, with an average award amount of USD 57 600.

The maximum length of the projects must be 60 months (five years) with five 12-month budget periods.

The grantees that can seek funding must be a museum, government ministy, non-governmental organization, or similar institution.

The US Embassy in Sofia encourages cost sharing, contributions in kind, and other forms of cost participation.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is December 10, 2010.
