Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and the alleged leader of the crime group codenamed "The Killers," Petar Stoyanov aka the Chieftain, met in a restaurant in June, the Bulgarian conservative party claims.
The Member of the Parliament from the Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, Emil Vasilev, announced in a TV interview Tuesday the two met at a resort near the Black Sea city of Varna on the same exact day when the controversial businessman and football club president in the town of Samokov, Yuri Galev, was murdered.
In the Tuesday interview, the MP announced he had eyewitnesses of the said meeting and Stoyanov's attorney had confirmed the information about it.
Vasilev further pointed out people have previously resigned from the Interior Minister's post over similar revelations, and asked Tsvetanov to clarify if he had offered the Chieftain a political appointment in exchange of information.
The MP explained the above information had to be presented at a special press conference at the party's headquarters, but he decided to go ahead with it in order to prevent possible compromise.
Last Friday, at the time a briefing was held by RZS, Bulgarian media published reports that a former male party member is accusing party leader, Yane Yanev, of sexual harassment.
RZS launched a series of attacks against Tsvetanov as soon as the former undercover agent of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS), and alleged top crime boss, Aleksei Petrov, who was arrested in February, during a special police operation codenamed "Octopus," was released under house arrest.
The Chieftain is one of the five "Killers" charged with the shooting death of Galev in June, 2010.
