Business » ENERGY | October 24, 2010, Sunday // 19:23

Electricity worth BGN 7 M was stolen in Western Bulgaria in the first 7 months of 2010, power utility CEZ announced.

The actual losses incurred to the company as a result of the thefts are estimated to be even higher.

Based on the established thefts, CEZ demanded payments worth BGN 3 M on consumers that it found were involved in stealing electricity.

However, under Bulgaria's legislation, the power utility is entitled to demand payments for electricity thefts dated back no more than three months. There is no provision for reimbursement for electricity stolen more than three months ago.
