Health care reform in Bulgaria is not going in the right direction, the health minister, Stefan Konstantinov, has stated.
"The reform is not going as fast as it should and sometimes it is not even going in the right direction. I am talking about an optimization of the hospital network. There are many hospitals in Bulgaria," Konstantinov said in an interview for the Bulgarian Nova TV.
He explained that the model of development of the health care does not correspond to Bulgaria's financial resources.
The recently appointed health minister pointed out that he had been following closely the situation in the sector and had participated in it as part of the Bulgarian Doctors Union.
"Something has to be done, something that will bring relief to the society. One of the things I am concerned with is that people might have high expectations that I would come, change a few laws and by June next year, we would have a wonderful health care sector," Konstantinov said.
Stefan Konstantinov was deputy chairman of the Managing Board of the Bulgarian Doctors Union and member of the Board of Directors of hospital "Nikola Vassilev" at the town of Kyustendil.
