The prime ministers of Bulgaria and Georgia are upbeat about Bulgarian Filip Dimitrov's role as EU Ambassador to Georgia.
This optimism was expressed by Prime Minsiter Boyko Borisov and his Georgian counterpart Nikoloz "Nika" Gilauri during their meeting in Sofia Monday.
Filip Dimitrov, ex-PM (1992-1993) and senior diplomat from Bulgaria, will be taking up his post as the EU Ambassador to Georgia in November as part of the EU External Actions Service led by High Representative Catherine Ashton.
"When we insisted before the EU for Dimitrov's appointment, we were led by the rationale that he is a contemporary, "clean" politician, former Prime Minister of Bulgaria, with Euro-Atlantic thinking, and I believe that his appointment to Georgia is a very good hit for the EU," Bulgaria's Prime Minister Borisov declared during his joint news conference with Gilauri.
"We know a lot about former Prime Minister Dimitrov, about his vision, and about what he did for Bulgaria," Gilauri said in turn.
During his meeting with Georgia's PM in Sofia on Monday, which happened to be right after a meeting with Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Borisov declared Bulgaria's all-out support for Georgia's NATO membership.
The PM revealed Bulgaria and Georgia worked actively to open a direct air line between Sofia and Tbilisi. The two leaders vowed to focus on economic relations, including in agriculture and tourism, but especially emphasized the transit of natural gas, including of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and the Nabucco gas transit pipeline.
