The two major opposition formations in Bulgaria - the Socialist Party (BSP) and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) – collected 76 signatures for the no-confidence vote against the cabinet "Borisov."

The opposition submitted to the Parliament on Friday a motion of no-confidence vote against the government of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party over "the failure of its policy in health care."

The leader of the Socialists and former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, reiterated the replacement of the health minister in no way replaces the grounds for the vote and the situation in the health care sector, which suffers the results of year-long experiments and has reached the state of total chaos and collapse.

Stanishev further cited data showing that a nation-wide no-confidence vote on health care would receive 41% support, 30% would be against it and 27% would abstain.

"We believe, we express the public opinion," he said.

Lyutvi Mestan, DPS Deputy Chair, on his part, stated it was natural for ruling parties to base their self-defense on the worn-out myth about the difficult legacy from previous cabinets.

"We can understand that, but in the health care sector this myth is particularly dangerous. In the four years of our rule, the rule of the "hated" Three-Way Coalition, we never allowed even one delayed payment to a Bulgarian hospital, and we modernized the facilities. So much about the legacy. Last summer people voted for GERB so that they can rule and correct the mistakes of their predecessors, not to find endless excuses in them" Mestan pointed out.

The no-confidence vote was submitted just a day after the cabinet announced the name of the new Health Minister, Stefan Konstantinov, who replaced the ousted Anna-Maria Borisova.

Konstantinov says he would present his vision after the no-confidence vote.

The Parliament is expected to vote on his nomination next Wednesday.

The Parliamentary Code requires holding of the vote no later than 7 days after the submission of the proposal. 121 votes are needed in order to dismiss the cabinet.

The vote does not threaten the government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, which enjoys the comfortable support of the right-wing opposition MPs in the 240-seat legislation.
