An earthquake with a 4.6-magnitude on the Richter scale rattled Eastern Romania Thursday morning reminding Romanians of the 1977 Vrancea disaster.
The epicenter of Thursday's quake was in the Vrancea County, at a depth of 120 km, reported the Romanian agency Mediafax. It was felt in the capital Bucharest, which is 200 km to the southeast.
There is no data of casualties or damages. The Romanian authorities have urged the people not to succumb to panic because according to seismologists such earthquakes are normal for the region, and should not be causing much damage.
Thursday's quake brought reminiscence of the 7.6-magnitude Vrancea earthquake from March 1977 that killed 1 600 persons in Romania and Bulgaria, and damaged 8 500 buildings. The Bulgarian casualties in the town of Svishtov were 120.
Thursday earthquake is not reported to have been felt anywhere in Bulgaria.
