The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office is probing the country's oldest institution of higher education, the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski."
The probe was launched after an alert from Education Minister, Sergey Ignatov, and media publications claiming the University is abusing budget subsidies and is doing illegal transfers of students from other schools.
The probe will involve the entire leadership of the University, including its President.
In March, Ignatov notified Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, about illegal draining of funds from Master's programs. Other allegations include corruption practices and violations of public procurement orders.
