The Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, had made inquiries about the issue with the Chief Mufti in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian news agency BTA informs, citing Turkish TV.

Davutoglu had made a phone call to his Bulgarian counterpart, Nikolay Mladenov, and expressed his concern about the problem with the reinstatement of Nedim Gendzhev at the post of Chief Mufti of Bulgaria's Muslims.

The Turkish Foreign Minister had stated this controversy violates religious rights of Muslims in Bulgaria.

Ankara reacted earlier at the news Gendzhev would be reinstated through a court's rule and would replace Mustafa Ali Hadzhi, who was elected as Chief Mufti by the Muslim National Conference in October last year.

At the time, Turkish State Minister, Faruk Chelik, came to Sofia to meet in person with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
