Fallen and inclined electric poles at the dump in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Nesebar may cause fires and damp the region, the concessioner of the dump has announced.

According to the concessioner Mihail Radev, the heavy rains in June have caused the excavation of the earth and the sloping of the facilities, two of which have almost fallen.

Radev said Monday in an interview for the Bulgarian Darik Radio that he has been asking for assistance the Austria-owned power utility EVN for two months but there has not been a reaction on their side yet.

“If a spark falls on the dump, tons of waste will be set on fire and the gasification will cover the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts Sunny Beach, Ravda and Nesebar,” Radev said.

He has also explained that three distribution lines, which feed electricity to Sunny Beach, pass through the territory of the dump.

Radev has expressed his concern about three of the pillars of one of the distribution lines and has stated that he would seek help from the mayor Nikolay Dimitrov.

EVN has announced that there was no danger for the lives of the employees of the concessioner company or for a fire in the region.

According to information from the power utility, the power supply to the three pillars of the distribution line was stopped since August 15, when the company was alarmed.

A team has been immediately sent to the site to exclude the facilities from the network.

“There is no danger of fire or for the lives and health of people. The electricity supply in the region has also not been disrupted,” EVN officials said.

They have also stated that the company envisions a replacement of the pillars but did not announce specific deadlines.
