Talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority are possible and desirable, said Israeli President Shimon Peres during his official visit in Bulgaria to meet President Georgi Parvanov.
The Israeli President added that his country has no desire to return to Gaza and will lift the blockade if Gaza residents are peaceful and good-willing.
Peres praised Bulgaria's role and potential in contributing to the peace process in the Middle East, saying that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' recent visit to Sofia in mid-July is “no coincidence” with his own.
He added that Bulgaria is a good place for holding peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian authority.
Bulgarian President Paravanov, on his part, expressed Bulgaria's strong support for direct talks between Israel and Palestine and stated that Bulgaria a friend of both parties.
