Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry has issued a warning urging migrant workers going to Sweden to be extremely cautious with respect to their employers.

The Ministry has reported that an large number of Bulgarian migrant workers keep going to Sweden with contracts from unlicensed firms.

Subsequently, as the working conditions do not meet their expectations, the Bulgarian workers resort to the Bulgarian Embassy in Stockholm in order to ask for shelter and money to get back to Bulgaria.

The Foreign Ministry says that only companies with a license from the State Employment Agency can be held liable for the conditions that they provide for migrant workers who go to Sweden to do unqualified job such as picking wild berries.

In a similar recent case, the Bulgarian Embassy in Portugal helped migrant workers come back to Bulgaria.
