The Bulgarian and Greek executives are going to get together Tuesday in Sofia for an historic joint sitting to discuss common interests and projects between the two neigboring countries.

The two cabinets will outline priorities and plans for cooperative action.

A number of memoranda on economic matters are expected to be signed. Agreements in the fields of defense, energy and sports will also be signed in the framework of the visit.

It is expected that Greek PM George Papandreou will seize the opportunity to try and convince his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov to look more favorably on the joint Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline. Over the years, Greece has shown a staunch commitment to the pipe, while Bulgarian governments have gone back and forth, with current PM Borisov having repeatedly voiced negative opinions about the project and its environmental prospects.

The two prime ministers will give a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
