The chair of the Bulgarian State Commission for Energy Regulation (DKEVR), Angel Semerdzhiev, has forecasted a decrease by minimum 10% for the price for natural gas from October.
“The main reason for the decrease of natural gas prices is the result from the negotiations with Russia last week. This will also lead to a drop of prices for heating in the beginning of the heating season,” Semerdzhiev said and added that for customers in Sofia, the drop of prices will be 7%.
The DKEVR chair also explained that the natural gas price is formed by the price that the gas is bought in USD and pointed out that there is currently a stabilization of the USD.
On the other hand, he noted that the market for alternative sources has also been stable lately. According to Semerdzhiev, these two factors play the main role in defining the natural gas price.
He also commented on the rumors that the state-owned “Bulgargaz” is facing bankruptcy.
“The statements that “Bulgargaz” is on the verge on bankruptcy are not precise. The problems in the holding come from the inability to collect their money. If heating companies pay their duties on time, “Bulgargaz” will not have any problems. For 2009, the company even had profit,” Semerdzhiev said.
