Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov has visited Italy for an official opening of a new Bulgarian plaque in Rome.

“Bulgaria will no longer be connected only to the assassination attempt over the Pope, but also to the fact that the Pope has given us a church,” the Borisov said during his visit in Rome on Monday.

In the Italian capital, the PM and his delegation have visited the church “San Vincenzo e Anastasio” for the official opening ceremony of a Bulgarian plaque.

“On November 22, 2002, His Holiness Pope John Paul II granted this gorgeous temple to the Bulgarian community in Italy, so that they can keep the Bulgarian spirituality and legacy of the two co-patrons of Europe, the holy brothers, St. Cyril and St. Methodius. From the grateful Bulgarian nation, 2010. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov,” reads the plaque in both Bulgarian and Italian.

Pope John Paul II proclaimed the two Sts Cyril and Methodius Co-patrons of Europe together with St Benedict of Norcia in 1980.

After the ceremony, Borisov has visited the Papal Basilica “Santa Maria Maggiore” where the plaque with a spelling error has been replaced with a new one.

During his visit in Rome on May 24, the Bulgarian PM was indignant by the spelling error on the plaque and promised to replace it in a month.
