The Brussels police has forced the Bulgarian nuclear physicist Georgi Kotev, who has announced a hunger-strike, to leave the park in which he has positioned his tent.
On Monday, Kotev announced a hunger-strike against hiding the truth about the findings that Units 5 and 6 of the Bulgarian nuclear power plant at Kozloduy have been using an unlicensed nuclear fuel for several years.
“The police told me that I did not have an authorization by the municipality to protest near the European Commission. They also told me I will be arrested if I do not end the protest immediately,” Kotev said, adding that the police officers have been very rude to him and have even cursed him.
The police department in Brussels have not commented on the case yet. However, the Bulgarian physicist has confirmed that he would seek a legal authorization and will consider other forms of protest as well.
“I am putting an end to the hunger-strike because my goal is not to die of starvation, but rather to draw the attention to the problem and cause an investigation,” Kotev said.
The Bulgarian physicist have been stating for several years that the nuclear furl used in the Kozloduy NPP has been replaced with unlicensed one and this was the basis of a corruption scheme. He said he found that out while working in the Bulgarian nuclear energy sector.
According to unofficial information, the European Commission has already investigated the case. For his five days of hunger-strike, however, neither European, not Bulgarian authorities have tried to contact him.
