Bulgarian minister of agriculture Miroslav Naydenov has expressed some worries about the success of this year's wheat crops, after torrential rains flooded north-eastern Bulgaria.

Thursday and Friday heavy rains fell on north-eastern region of Dobrudzha, home of a sizeable part of Bulgaria's wheat fields, making it impossible for crops to be reaped.

Naydenov, speaking in an interview for Bulgarian Darik Radio, said that it is imperative that reaping starts next week at latest, in order to get an optimal quality of the grain.

Late June Naydenov announced optimistic views about the size and quality of this year's wheat crop in Bulgaria, forecasting revenue of BGN 1 B from exports.

Saturday the agriculture minister also expressed dissatisfaction at Bulgarian farmer's habit of not insuring their crops, in spite of state stimulation. According to him, only about 10% of crops in the country are insured.
